Greentop Circus - To enrich people’s lives and inspire positive change through circus

Greentop Circus was established in 1995 with the aim of bringing new circus to Sheffield. Since then Greentop has developed into a dynamic organisation, recognised as one of the UK’s top four circus centres. Greentop is an Arts Council Regularly Funded Organisation (RFO); this reflects the valuable contribution Greentop makes to the local community and its development of circus arts. It is one of the most successful social enterprises in the region and it is both a registered charity and a limited company.

Greentop has established itself as a unique educational provider with an Open College Network (OCN) accredited Circus in Performance course for people who wish to become professional circus artists. Greentop also trains people in weekly and weekend sessions. Courses range from basic circus skills to specialist training for professional artists.

During the last 8 years Greentop has run a Youth Circus, supported by Children In Need, for 8 to16 year olds. It is a popular activity and has provided a creative and safe environment for local children to develop physical and social skills and spend their time constructively outside school.

Greentop runs a community ‘outreach’ programme of circus training, running workshops in schools, colleges, community centres, local fairs and festivals. It works in areas of poverty and high unemployment, with groups of various special needs, learning and behavioural difficulties, both adult and children. They are also working specifically to include children from the black and ethnic minorities, who are currently underrepresented in local participation in circus skills and performance.

As a licensed public entertainment venue, Greentop regularly puts on circus cabarets and shows. The premises are also hired out on a regular basis for weddings, parties, as rehearsal rooms and also for private shows and ceilidhs.

The Greentop entertainment agency provides performers, circus artists, expert tutors and other entertainers on a commercial basis to a wide range of clients nationwide.

They also successfully deliver circus-based team building workshops to many companies and corporate organisations each year to great acclaim.
