The Exhibition

• A collaboration between photographer Barry Payling and Greentop Circus Centre with local circus artists captured in various landscapes around Sheffield
  
  
• This exciting project sees a coming together of two distinct art forms: landscape photography and contemporary circus
  
  
• Barry Payling is one of Britain’s top landscape photographers; he also works on assignments for some of the country’s top commercial clients
  
  
• All the photographs in the exhibition are taken on film and shot on Hasselblad cameras, producing beautiful images in large format with incredible detail
  
  
• Greentop Circus in Sheffield is Yorkshire’s only circus school and training centre where both members of the general public and professional circus artists can learn and train
  
  
• The circus artists represented in the photographs are all professional performers, living locally and available through the Greentop agency
  
  
• This project is funded by the Arts Council of England. The aim of the funding is to develop Greentop Circus Centre as a community resource, increase public awareness and raise its profile both locally and nationally
  
  
• The exhibition is initially being toured around local venues in areas of deprivation. This is because Greentop has a focus on outreach into areas where the children have traditionally had less access to artistic and creative opportunities, often due to high levels of unemployment and poverty
